Our Story

From garage to global impact

From Trash to Treasure

It all started back in 2023, when we — Jazz and James — discovered our shared passion for flipping pre-loved clothing. We were already good mates with a shared passion for business, but the question was… why clothing?

At the time, Jazz was running a small eBay store, flipping just about anything he could find — DVDs, video games, electronics, toys and everything inbetween. It was the ultimate treasure hunt! But before long, he realised he’d become a jack of all trades and master of none. Around that same time, he and James were chatting about how to turn this hobby business into something bigger.

That’s when the idea clicked: team up and focus on one thing. Something simple, scalable, and full of potential. The answer? Clothing.

Clothing is everywhere, everyone needs it, and it’s a market with endless variety. Sure, we knew absolutely nothing about fashion at the time — two blokes learning what “Y2K” even meant — but that just made it more exciting. We threw ourselves in, learning everything we could about brands, fabrics, styles, what sells and more importantly, what doesn’t.

We started hunting for pieces everywhere — from thrift stores and Facebook Marketplace to asking our family and friends if they had anything they no longer wear. Weeks turned into months, and months into years. Before we knew it, we’d sold over 15,000 unique items of clothing, met incredible people in the industry, and outgrew not just the garage but three extra rooms in James’s house!

On this journey, we became experts in the fun side of pre-loved fashion — the thrill of the find, the joy of rewear, and the stories behind every piece. But we also came face-to-face with the darker side of the clothing industry… and thats where the next chapter of our story begins...

The more we learned about pre-loved fashion, the more we realised just how broken the clothing industry really is.

Every year, over 200,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in Australian landfills — that’s the weight of 100,000 cars. Globally, the fashion industry produces over 100 billion garments every year, yet more than 60% of those end up in landfill within just 12 months of being made.

Even when we donate, the reality isn’t much better. Only 10–30% of clothing donated to op shops ever makes it onto the shop floor. The rest? Often shipped overseas, downcycled, or simply dumped. Charity racks are overflowing, shoppers are overwhelmed, and good-quality clothes are being lost in the chaos.

And behind the scenes, the impact goes far beyond waste. Producing just one new cotton T-shirt can take 2,700 litres of water — enough to keep one person hydrated for nearly three years. The fashion industry is responsible for up to 10% of global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined.

We knew there had to be a better way — one that made sustainable fashion simple, accessible, and rewarding for everyone.

That’s when ULOOP was born. Our mission became bigger than us: to keep clothing in circulation, reduce waste, and make it easier than ever for people to do good through what they wear. With convenience, simplicity, and experience at the forefront, we set out to reimagine how Australia rewears.

The Dark Side of Fashion

Closing the Loop

In the beginning, we just wanted to sell clothes — now we want to change the way people think about fashion. The truth is, the problem isn’t just fast fashion itself — it’s our relationship with clothing. For too long, we’ve been taught to buy cheap, buy fast, and throw away even faster.

At ULOOP, we’re here to flip that mindset.

We believe fashion should last longer, tell stories, and have more than one life. Buying pre-loved isn’t second best — it’s smarter, more sustainable, and often better quality than what’s hanging new in store or online. Every piece already has character, craftsmanship, and a smaller carbon footprint — and that’s something worth celebrating.

So we built a system that makes sustainable fashion easy for everyone. Our Closit Deposits give people a simple, 24/7 way to pass on pre-loved clothes, keeping them in circulation instead of landfill. We sort, photograph, and rehome every rewearable item through our online store — giving each piece a second chance to shine. And further more we partner with industry leaders in textile recycling to ensure nothing goes to the tip.

For the community, it’s effortless impact: decluttering made meaningful. For shoppers, it’s a chance to find high-quality, unique fashion at a fraction of the cost — while doing good for the planet.

We’re not just keeping clothing in the loop — we’re building a movement that proves sustainable fashion can be convenient, stylish, and accessible to everyone.

Because the future of fashion isn’t fast — it’s ULOOP
